Post Nasal Drip
Post nasal drip describes mucus discharge from the back of the nose down the throat.
Post Nasal Drip Symptoms
- Excessive mucus accumulating in the throat
- Frequent throat clearing or cough, especially at night
- Hoarse, raspy, or breathy voice
- Halitosis and bad taste in mouth from dripping secretions
- Nausea, reflux, or vomiting in severe cases
Post Nasal Drip Diagnosis
- Medical history of chronic nasal/post nasal symptoms
- Physical exam of nasal passages and throat
- Allergy testing or CT scan to identify causes
Post Nasal Drip Treatment Options
- Saline nasal irrigation
- Nasal steroid sprays
- Mucolytics
- Drying sprays such as ipratropium
- Antihistamines
- Decongestants for temporary relief
- Antibiotics

- Chronic nasal or sinus infections blocking sinus drainage

- Structural issues like deviated septum or nasal polyps
- Acute viral or bacterial sinus infection
- Use of drying medications like antihistamines or diuretics
